WHY COOK?

The joy of cooking and sharing beautiful, healthy and delicious meals has been lost in the new normal of overscheduling, instant gratification and convenience foods. This new normal has led to more unhealthy and obese Americans than ever before. One way to break this cycle is to get back into our kitchens and rediscover joy in cooking our meals.

Cooking does not have to be a chore! It's good, clean fun. It is good for your brain--it’s science and math and art all wrapped up into one. It is a perfect activity to share with friends and family members (lots of teamwork, no screen time here!) It puts you in control of how you fuel your body. It is easier on your wallet than dining out or carry out.  Plus, making beautiful, delicious, healthy meals for our family and friends makes them feel loved and comforted. Our goal is to give you the tools you need to start reaping these benefits.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND

I always enjoyed cooking for family and friends.  I could follow a good recipe, even a relatively complex one, and create a delicious meal. But I didn’t always work efficiently, and I longed to be more creative in the kitchen--I just didn’t have the tools.

Meanwhile, hoping to put my daughter on a path to love and appreciate cooking, I enrolled her in a local cooking class. She really enjoyed the experience, but the recipes weren’t simple enough for her to make at home on her own, and in some cases we didn’t even have the right equipment. She wanted to do another week of class, but the school offered only one option.

With these things in mind, I set a goal of learning more about cooking so I could teach beginner cooks the things I always wanted to know--the fundamentals behind the recipes. I took an extensive chef’s certification course, through which I dug deeper into the cooking concepts and techniques I needed to be the creative cook I always wanted to be.

Armed with this knowledge, I created a set of cooking classes (with more to come!) that I hope will inspire a new crop of cooks--and with that, a little bit healthier and happier world.

Cook inspired!
